World Sports Photography Awards won by Golden Moment

The winner of this year’s World Sports Photography Awards has been announced, with a captivating image of Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina taking the top spot. The photograph, taken by French photographer Jerome Brouillet, captures a perfect moment where athlete, spectacle, and photographer come together in perfect harmony.

The winning image was taken on the third day of the surfing event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Teahupo’o, French Polynesia. Brouillet, who is based in Tahiti, beat out more than 2,200 professional sports photographers from 96 countries who submitted over 13,000 images to this year’s competition.

The World Sports Photography Awards are the only global awards dedicated to sport photography. Judged by leading figures from the world of sport, media, photography, and creativity, these awards recognize and celebrate the incredible images and the photographers behind them. Each image tells a compelling story of the emotion, passion, athleticism, and focus that are at the heart of sports.

Sophie Collins, Chief Marketing Officer at MPB, a trusted platform for photographers to buy, sell, and trade used photo and video gear, spoke about the competition as a judge and sponsor. “Sports photography has a unique power to freeze dynamic action and evoke profound emotion in a single frame, capturing stories that transcend the boundaries of the playing field,” she said. “It’s been thrilling to see the innovation and passion from this year’s participants, setting a remarkable standard for the years to come.”

The full gallery of winning images, including the top 10 in every sports category, can be viewed on the World Sports Photography Awards website. For more information about the awards, please visit www.worldsportsphotographyawards.com.
