The company that centers its mode of operations around delivering consumers the greatest stories ever told has got a great story of its own now after it has gained the coveted B CorpTM certification by taking the organization’s environmental, social and financial performance to the next level.
World of Books is dedicated in its efforts to achieve a sustainable future here and now. To do this they’ve implemented a great deal of changes in their company over the past year, from reducing their impact on the environment to protecting the low-carbon economy. Now, serving as the icing on the cake, their efforts have been rewarded after receiving a certified B Corporation status.
Certified B Corporations are businesses that have been formally recognized for meeting exceptionally high standards in terms of their social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability in accordance with ethically balancing profits.
It’s not an easy feat to achieve. There are currently 3023 companies who’ve joined the B Corp community, and among them are some of the most well-known brands around, such as Innocent Drinks, Body Shop, Pukka Herbs, Jojo Maman Bebe and Patagonia. In terms of certification, World of Books becomes only the 229th company to achieve it in the UK.
World of Books deputy chairman, Stephen Boobyer, sets out the reason why the company fits in so well with B Corp:
“We’ve always admired the values and aspirations of B Corp which align so well with our purpose, as a circular economy, for profit business that supports charities and protects the planet by enabling more goods to be reused. We’re incredibly proud to join the B Corp community.”
Those in the B Corp community are thrilled to have them on board, with Kate Sandle, Director of Programmes and Engagement of B Lab UK, expressing her appreciation:
“We are delighted to welcome World of Books Group to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates, who believe business really can be a force for good. We know that World of Books is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward”.
B Corp aren’t concerned with profit for profit’s sake. The use it as a means to obtain a positive impact, whether it be for their employees, communities or the environment.
We look forward to seeing what new heights World of Books will soar to now they’ve joined this dynamic community, and are set to elevate their sustainability and environmental goals even higher.
