Nystagmus Network Founder and Honorary President Receives MBE for Dedicated Service to Eye Health Support Charity
London, UK – Vivien Jones, founder and honorary president of the Nystagmus Network, was honored with the MBE for her outstanding contributions to the nystagmus community in the 2025 New Year’s Honours List by His Majesty. Jones, who has dedicated over 40 years of her life to this cause, was filled with joy and gratitude upon receiving this prestigious award.
Jones’ journey began in 1984, when she sat at her kitchen table stuffing envelopes with information leaflets about nystagmus for other parents facing similar challenges. Her son, Sam, had just been diagnosed with the condition and she wanted to help others in the same situation. Little did she know that her efforts would lead her to become the leader of a national charity, driving research, awareness, and support for those affected by nystagmus.
This recognition comes as a fitting tribute to Jones’ unwavering dedication and hard work towards improving the lives of those with nystagmus. It also coincides with the charity’s 40th anniversary, celebrated in 2024.
Overwhelmed by the outpouring of responses to her honor, Jones expressed her gratitude to all those who have supported her along the way. She said, “I was very touched by the number of messages and their content. I was amazed and delighted by how many people have contacted me over the award. I see the MBE as a tribute to all those who have helped the Nystagmus Network develop and grow – so thank you everyone.”
