UK workers to benefit from low-carbon project boom in 2023

Last Updated on: 22nd November 2023, 07:12 pm

The North, the Midlands and the Southwest will be major growth areas for jobs supporting the UK’s energy transition

Assystem, an international engineering, digital, and project management services group, plans to hire at least 560 new employees in UK regions in 2023. Blackburn, Bristol, Derby and Sunderland in particular stand to benefit as key locations for jobs in the UKs decarbonised power sector.

The company is seeking candidates for 360+ engineering roles and 80+ digital and Project Management Office positions, as well as 40+ infrastructure services specialists and 60+ business functions professionals in its eight UK offices. It is also seeking graduates for its 2023 intake.

Many of these positions will support the development of the UK’s new nuclear fleet, including the Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, and Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor programme. The company is also recruiting to support key UK transport projects, including HS2, East-West Rail, and Great North Rail.

New roles will also relate to the development of STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) a new fusion power facility planned for West Burton that will demonstrate the ability to generate net electricity from fusion energy – an industry expected to be worth billions to the UK economy.

Assystem is a committed player in the energy transition and is focused on the production of decarbonised electricity through the development of nuclear and renewable energies, electricity networks, hydrogen projects, and low-carbon transport. This mission is at the core of the company’s Switch On brand and the focus of the company’s global employee community, known as ‘Switchers’, who are united in their motivation to deliver low carbon infrastructure at the scale and pace required to limit the impact of climate change.

Employees of Assystem benefit from rewarding and fun working life, supported by a defined career pathway, hybrid working, training and development and international mobility options. This is supported by Assystem’s commitments to creating a safe, happy working environment for all at Assystem, which is anchored by the company’s commitments to diversity and inclusion as part of its wider CSR policy Switch to ImpAct.

Assystem is seeking people across the experience spectrum and in the areas of:

  • Project Management Office (PMO) including IT/Digital roles
  • Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineers
  • Developers, Data Scientists and Business Managers

Vicky Proctor, Head of People at Assystem UK said: “We are looking for people who are passionate about making a difference and align with our ‘Switchers’ spirit. Whether you are taking your first steps on the career ladder or have a wealth of experience to offer, we welcome you to bring your enthusiasm, agility, and resilience to our projects. In return, we offer a fulfilling career path with opportunities for growth, new projects, and learning, all within an inclusive, friendly, and enjoyable work environment.”
