UK IT and Tech professionals are feeling apprehensive about the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation on their job security, according to a new market study from IT recruitment specialists Computer Futures. The study, How the STEM World Evolves, reveals that 52% of respondents expressed fear over the potential job loss caused by AI and automation.
Timo Lehne, CEO of SThree, the parent company of Computer Futures, commented: “AI and automation are causing a lot of excitement and nervousness about their impact on the global workforce. Public discourse shows a seesaw of acceptance and anxiety. As these technologies become a part of everyday life, it is important to understand how professionals may feel threatened and what they can do about it.”
The survey, conducted by IntelliSurvey in collaboration with SThree, also found that remote working is important to UK IT and Tech professionals, with 80% stating that their next role should allow them to work remotely. Pay transparency is high on the agenda, with 83% of respondents noting that it is important to know they are being paid fairly and to know how much they will earn before applying for a new job.
Job security (87%) and personal purpose in their work (82%) were also ranked highly by respondents. More than two thirds (77%) placed importance on their employer’s mission and values.
