Transform 2025 into the Year of Giving Back with Age Concern Hampshire

Age Concern Hampshire Calls for Volunteers to Support Older People in the Community

Wednesday 22 January, 2025 – As the new year of 2025 begins, Age Concern Hampshire, a leading independent charity, is seeking compassionate individuals to volunteer and make a positive impact in the lives of older people in the county. With the ageing population on the rise, the charity’s work has become more crucial than ever, and additional volunteers are needed to support their efforts.

The charity is dedicated to improving the lives of older individuals through specialized care at their Care and Wellbeing Centres and essential services that promote independence. They play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for older people, their caregivers, and families.

Volunteering with Age Concern Hampshire offers more than just an opportunity to give time – it provides a chance to build meaningful connections and ensure that older people feel valued and supported. Whether it’s an hour a week or more, each contribution can make a difference by providing companionship, practical support, and a lifeline to those who need it most.

To meet the increasing demands of Hampshire’s ageing population, the charity is looking for volunteers to take on various roles, including:

– Supporting Care and Wellbeing Centres by engaging in activities, promoting social interaction, and providing day care services.
– Organizing and running social groups in areas like Basingstoke and the New Forest, fostering a sense of community and connection among older residents.
– Assisting with initiatives such as the Information Service, which offers essential guidance and resources.
– Providing practical support with form-filling and helping older people access benefits and services.
– Assisting with reception duties at Foot Care Clinics, which provide toenail cutting to help maintain health and mobility.
– Offering administrative support across all services to ensure efficient operations.
– Providing support on rehabilitation wards in Community Hospitals in Alton, Gosport, and Petersfield.

Kate Harrison, Volunteer Coordinator at Age Concern Hampshire, commended the charity’s volunteers, saying, “Our amazing team of dedicated and passionate volunteers make it possible for us to provide support to our clients and their caregivers. Many of them have been with us for years, finding real enjoyment and fulfillment in their roles, as well as the social benefits volunteering brings.”

In addition to volunteers, Age Concern Hampshire is also seeking individuals for leadership roles, including Trustee and Deputy Chair positions. These roles offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the charity’s strategic direction, shape its future, and navigate the challenges ahead.

As more businesses incorporate corporate social responsibility (CSR) into their operations, Age Concern Hampshire is actively seeking partnerships with corporations. This includes opportunities for employee volunteer programs and joint campaigns, with the aim of expanding the reach and impact of the charity’s essential services.
