Tomato Energy has introduced an innovative solution to help local authorities and social housing providers embrace clean energy, contributing to the UK Government’s aim of establishing Britain as a leading clean energy superpower.
The Smart Energy Communities initiative focuses on reducing energy costs, creating green jobs, and advancing the nation’s climate goals. It enables communities to lead the way in adopting renewable energy and ensuring its benefits are shared locally.
In line with the government’s Great British Energy Local Power Plan, this programme supports the creation of 1,000 local energy projects powered by renewable energy sources such as solar panels, wind turbines, and carports, with 100 of these focused on carport developments. These projects aim to make clean energy both accessible and affordable for communities.
Tomato Energy’s scalable Energy as a Service model, underpinned by Senapt’s advanced software, empowers social housing providers to implement smart energy systems that deliver tangible results.
“By working within existing frameworks, Tomato Energy allows communities to start generating clean energy now without waiting for new regulations,” said Kenny Virdee of Tomato Energy.
“Our use of Senapt’s Energy as a Service software ensures that energy production and distribution is optimised, providing maximum value to residents.”
This initiative offers social housing providers and local councils an opportunity to reduce tenant costs, accelerate climate action, and support the UK’s clean energy goals, all while fostering sustainability within communities.
