JET, a leading fuel brand, has released the results of a poll conducted in June 2023 which named the Lake District, Devon to Cornwall and Peak District as the UK’s happiest road trips. Of the 2000 UK drivers surveyed, 33% cited the Lake District National Park as their happiest road trip while the coast-hugging Devon to Cornwall drive came in second place. The brooding, dramatic Peak District was voted third.

The survey revealed that driving through beautiful scenery and feeling a sense of freedom are the top two factors for making driving a happy, pleasurable experience for UK drivers. Other activities which people love about driving include listening to a favourite road trip playlist and having deep and meaningful conversations with passengers.

When asked to explain the emotions experienced while on a favourite road trip, the majority of drivers surveyed (52%) identified happiness and joy as the main emotion. Other emotions cited included calm and contentment (45%), excitement (42%), love (26%), nostalgia (22%), mental clarity (23%) and empowerment (18%).

Áine Corkery, Manager, UK Brand, Phillips 66 Limited said “At JET, we are all about facilitating and celebrating the joy of driving – and it’s gratifying to see how many UK drivers derive genuine happiness from taking to the road. We have an array of beautiful and spectacular road trips in the UK and as a driver-first company, we look forward to being a part of this summer’s road trip adventures and the making of new memories.”

JET has revealed the UK’s top 10 happiest road trips, with the North Yorkshire Moors/Road to Whitby in fifth place, the Scottish Borders between Northumberland and Edinburgh in sixth, Stonehenge/Cotswolds in fourth, Norfolk Coast in seventh and Cotswolds roads in ninth. Waterloo Bridge in London was voted eighth while Snowdonia to Anglesey rounded off the top ten.

The poll conducted by JET has revealed the things which UK drivers love about taking road trips and the emotions they experience while on them. With the summer in full swing, JET looks forward to being a part of road trip adventures and the making of new memories.
