Sustainability, Inclusivity, and Technology Take Center Stage on UK’s Agenda as Students Return to the Classroom

LONDON, UK – As students across the United Kingdom return to school for the new academic year, a recent study conducted by leading tutoring provider, GoStudent, reveals that they are highly motivated to shape their future and are deeply concerned about global issues such as sustainability and technology development.

The GoStudent Future of Education Report 2024, which surveyed over 5,500 parents and children aged 10 to 16 in six European countries, found that 76% of UK students are worried about the environment and 66% want to take action for a more sustainable and inclusive society. Additionally, more than half (56%) of students believe that their future job will be directly related to technology.

This data showcases the ambitious and driven mindset of today’s students, who are aware of the challenges they will face in the future and are eager to make a positive impact. However, the study also reveals that many students feel that traditional schooling is not adequately preparing them for their desired careers. In fact, 37% of UK students do not believe that their education is equipping them with the necessary skills for their dream job.

With 69% of students expressing a desire for more guidance in choosing their future path, there is a clear opportunity for personalized education to nurture their passions and support their ambitions. In line with this, GoStudent has announced the availability of 50 scholarships for students across Europe, providing them with personalized 1:1 tutoring tailored to their unique needs and goals.

Felix Ohswald, CEO and Co-founder of GoStudent, believes that education is the most valuable tool for success and wants to support students in achieving their ambitions. He states, “With the right guidance, every child has the potential to turn their dreams into reality.”

The scholarship recipients in the UK will be selected by a three-member jury, including Felix Ohswald, Michael McKoy (former schoolteacher and UK Tutor of the Year at GoStudent), and Mya Medina (Regional Head of Customer and Tutor Operations at GoStudent). The judges will evaluate applications based on the articulation of the student’s dream, the potential impact of tutoring support, and the level of passion conveyed.

Mya Medina expresses her excitement to join the judging panel and help identify students who will benefit from additional educational support. She says, “Education is a powerful tool that unlocks doors to a brighter future and opens pathways to success.”

Michael McKoy, a UK Tutor of the Year, adds, “The scholarship represents a deeply inspiring opportunity to make a significant difference in the life of a child. By helping them develop learner agency, we can inspire confidence and a curiosity for lifelong learning.”

Interested students can apply for the GoStudent Scholarship on the company’s website until October 7th, 2024. The judges will select winners based on their dream, the potential impact of tutoring support, and their level of passion. Each scholarship will cover six months of personalized online tutoring from one of GoStudent’s 23,000 expert tutors, tailored to the student’s individual needs and goals.

The GoStudent Future of Education Report 2024 was conducted in collaboration with Edelman Data & Intelligence, surveying over 5,500 parents and children aged 10 to 16 in six European countries. GoStudent, a venture-backed unicorn, has raised over €675 million from investors such as Prosus, Left Lane Capital, and SoftBank Vision Fund 2. In addition to its online tutoring platform, GoStudent has expanded its offerings with the acquisition of Seneca Learning, Tus Media, and offline tutoring business, Studienkreis, with a mission to unite the best of the online and offline world to unlock the potential of every child.
