Sun Spear Fund Backs The Charge Solution and Aqua Eye Tech with Strategic Investments

Last Updated on: 1st March 2025, 12:37 pm

Sun Spear Fund, an adaptive impact investment firm, has confirmed strategic seed investments in two trailblazing technology startups tackling key infrastructure challenges. The Charge Solution, a Cambridge University spin-out, is advancing wireless charging technology for electric vehicles, while Manila-based Aqua Eye Tech is pioneering IoT-driven water management solutions.

These investments underscore Sun Spear Fund’s distinctive approach to identifying breakthrough technologies in sectors often overlooked by conventional investors. Both companies are bringing innovative solutions to critical environmental and infrastructure issues across different global markets.

“These investments exemplify our approach to identifying patterns that others overlook and deploying capital where it can create optimal impact,” said David Meyer, Investment Director at Sun Spear Fund. “We see patterns emerging in both wireless charging and water management that signal major shifts in how these critical systems will function in the coming decades.”

The Charge Solution is at the forefront of wireless charging innovation, using resonant electromagnetic induction to power electric and autonomous vehicles. Its cutting-edge Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer system allows vehicles to recharge while in motion, potentially revolutionising EV adoption by reducing battery dependency and increasing driving range. The technology achieves an impressive 90-93% efficiency rate, matching conventional plug-in charging while eliminating physical connectors. With its high position tolerance, the system offers considerable benefits for fleet operations, autonomous vehicle networks, and public charging infrastructure.

Aqua Eye Tech, on the other hand, is focused on improving water management with its intelligent IoT platform. The Manila-based startup’s system enables real-time monitoring, leak detection, and predictive maintenance for urban water networks. As water security becomes an increasing concern in rapidly urbanising regions, this technology provides vital improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and resource conservation. Its ability to detect leaks and optimise distribution could help conserve millions of gallons of water each year in water-stressed areas.

These investments align with Sun Spear Fund’s philosophy of deploying adaptive capital, targeting opportunities that others may overlook and positioning itself to address future global challenges. The firm believes that long-term impact requires both strategic foresight and precise execution.

“We don’t chase trends, we trace patterns,” explained Meyer. “Our investment thesis centres on identifying the spaces between conventional thinking where true innovation thrives. Both The Charge Solution and Aqua Eye operate in these intervals, developing solutions that address fundamental infrastructure challenges in novel ways.”

Sun Spear Fund will take up board observer roles in both companies, providing strategic insight as they scale operations and expand into new markets. These investments reinforce Sun Spear’s commitment to supporting infrastructure and sustainability-driven innovation as part of its wider investment strategy.

The funding will be directed towards product development, team expansion, and market entry initiatives for both companies. Financial terms of the investments remain undisclosed.
