Spudos Takes Sustainable Crisps to Dragons’ Den on 13th February

Last Updated on: 6th February 2025, 06:47 pm

On Thursday, 13th February at 8pm on BBC One, Spudos will step into the Dragons’ Den, hoping to win over the investors with their innovative and eco-friendly crisps. Unlike traditional crisps, Spudos come unseasoned, allowing consumers to customise their flavour using one of eight Spud Dust seasonings. Proudly produced in the UK, Spudos also champions sustainability with home-compostable packaging and refillable tubs.

The UK consumes an astonishing six billion packets of crisps annually, with most packaging being non-recyclable and ultimately ending up in landfill, polluting the oceans, or being incinerated. Spudos co-founder Del Currie shared his personal inspiration for creating the brand:

“I started shopping more sustainably myself, but being a crisps addict, I was still sneaking off for a cheeky bag of crisps and feeling guilty throwing that empty packet in the bin.”

Determined to make a change, Currie teamed up with business partner Chris Neal to create a crisp brand that not only offers a unique experience but also helps reduce waste.

Reflecting on a childhood memory, Currie explained:

“I remembered getting Salt n Shake when I was a kid and feeling like a chef cooking my own crisps.”

Noting that crisps had remained largely the same for the past 70 years, the pair saw an opportunity to introduce something different—combining interactive fun with an environmentally responsible approach.

With a Spudos crisp kit, customers receive a large 500g bag of crisps—equivalent to around 16 standard packets—along with Shake Bags and a variety of Spud Dust seasonings. Simply place some crisps into a Shake Bag, sprinkle on the seasoning of your choice, give them a shake, and enjoy. Unlike conventional crisp packaging, all disposable materials from Spudos are home-compostable, ensuring they break down naturally instead of lingering for decades.

Want to find out if Spudos secured a deal? Tune in on 13th February to see how they fared in the Den!
