England Suffers Heartbreaking Loss to Spain in Euro 2024 Final
England’s hopes of winning Euro 2024 were dashed in the final minutes of the match against Spain in Berlin. The Three Lions were defeated 2-1, marking their second consecutive loss in the Euros final after their defeat to Italy in Euro 2020, which was delayed due to the pandemic.
Captain Harry Kane expressed his disappointment and pain, stating, “We’re all just hurting.” He acknowledged that it had been a tough tournament for the team, but they had shown resilience throughout. Kane also praised the team for their efforts to equalize the score with Cole Palmer’s long-range goal, and for their big moment at the end when Spain cleared a shot off the line.
When asked about the future of manager Gareth Southgate, Kane stated, “We love the manager, but it’s his decision.” Southgate himself praised his team for their determination, stating that they competed until the very end of the final. However, he admitted that they did not possess the ball well enough, and acknowledged Spain as the best team of the tournament.
Even the royal family showed their support for the England team. Prince William, who was in the stadium, stated, “This time it just wasn’t meant to be,” and added on social media, “We’re all still so proud of you.” King Charles also had words of encouragement for the team, stating, “Hold your heads high.” He commended their achievement of reaching the final and expressed the pride of the nation for the Three Lions.
The match started off tense, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm in the first 45 minutes. However, Spain came out strong in the second half, scoring the first goal just over a minute in. Despite this setback, England’s substitute Cole Palmer managed to equalize with a stunning long-range shot in the 73rd minute. But Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal crushed England’s hopes with a goal in the 86th minute, securing their victory.
