Southend Foodbank benefits from £1,000 raised at Wine Tasting Fundraiser

Southend Foodbank, a local charity dedicated to supporting individuals in the Southend and Rochford area who are facing difficult times, recently hosted their first-ever Wine Tasting event to raise much needed funds for their ongoing work. The event, held on Monday 10 February, 2025, was a tremendous success, connecting local people and businesses with the foodbank and raising awareness of their important work in the community.

The foodbank, which provides three days’ worth of emergency food and practical support to those in need, has been organizing various fundraising events throughout the year to keep their services running and to raise awareness of their work across 8 distribution centers in Southend and Rochford.

Led by Aston Line from Worsley Wines, the Wine Tasting event featured an entertaining and informative three-hour session where attendees were able to enjoy a delightful selection of six wines from different regions in Europe and South Africa. The event, held at Porters Civic House and graciously gifted by The Worshipful Mayor of Southend-on-Sea and his family, raised just shy of £1,000 for the charity.

The evening was made even more special with the presence of Tanya, Colin, and Adam from Porters Civic House, who generously provided their staff and assistance with the set-up and logistics of the event. The Worshipful Mayor and his family also generously donated rare and unusual wines that were auctioned off during the event, raising an additional £150 for the charity.

Expressing his delight at being asked to lead the event, Aston from Worsley Wines said, “I am delighted that our wine tasting fundraiser was such a roaring success. Worsley Wines is a proudly independent, family-run firm, and we have been contributing to the local community since we were founded in 1982. Southend Foodbank does such important work protecting our city’s most vulnerable, and it is a cause that we are proud to support.”

Despite the generous donations from local families, churches, businesses, schools, and community groups, the demand for emergency food parcels in Southend is still at record levels. Since early 2024, Southend Foodbank has been spending over £15,000 a month on food to meet the increasing need for their vital services.

To continue their important work, Southend Foodbank is seeking further support and donations from the community. Distributed by https://pressat.co.uk/, the success of the Wine Tasting event is a testament to the generosity and support of the local community towards this important cause.
