Leicestershire corporate solicitor, Steven Mather, has recently announced the addition of two new members to his legal team in efforts to expand his business, which was established in 2020. Mather, who was previously a partner at a Leicestershire-based practice, decided to venture out on his own and establish his own legal business at the beginning of last year. He joins a growing number of consultant solicitors, who are now opting for a more independent approach to their work rather than being tied down to traditional law firm partnerships.
Mather’s business operates through Nexa Law, a firm that is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. According to Mather, the consultancy model aims to “create the perfect modern combination of excellent support for clients and a real freedom and work-life balance for the solicitors.” He believes that this approach will benefit both his clients and his team, allowing them to provide top-notch service while enjoying a healthy work-life balance.
The two new additions to Mather’s team are Amit Kapoor and Alistair Haggerty. Kapoor, who recently qualified as a solicitor, joins Mather’s business as a sub-consultant solicitor. With a background in technology and contracts consulting, Kapoor brings a wealth of experience from his previous work with companies such as Tech Mahindra, Fujitsu, and Universal Music Group. He will specialize in advisory, contract drafting, and dispute resolution work in areas such as technology and outsourcing, recruitment, employment, and public procurement.
Haggerty, on the other hand, qualified as a solicitor in 2013 and has previously worked with Mather. He brings a diverse range of experience to the team, having worked both in-house and with national and regional firms in the Midlands. With a focus on litigation, Haggerty has been involved in a variety of cases, from commercial disputes to employment law and property disputes. He joins Nexa Law directly as a consultant solicitor.
Mather explains that his decision to bring on these new consultants was driven by his business’s rapid growth, which has seen him acquire over 500 clients in just four years. He believes that their expertise and capacity will help him continue to provide excellent service to his clients, even during busy periods.
He also notes that his approach to recruitment is different from his previous firm, where they employed around 50 staff members. Instead, Haggerty and Kapoor will be joining as consultants with their own businesses. Mather believes that this will provide them with a better work-life balance and ultimately result in better service for his clients.
Eliot Hibbert, CEO of Nexa Law, expressed his delight in seeing Mather’s business grow through Nexa. He also welcomed Haggerty’s decision to join the firm as a consultant, highlighting the company’s commitment to allowing lawyers to run their own businesses while providing support through their head office staff.
Mather’s legal practice covers a wide range of business law matters, including buying and selling businesses, contracts, company law, employment law, and intellectual property. He is known for his dedication to providing excellent service to his clients and has a growing reputation in the industry.
