SocialBox.Biz, a tech-focused community interest company based in the UK, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary by highlighting its impact on society and calling for corporate boards and company leaders to take action.
The organization, founded in 2014 by a former child refugee, aims to bridge the digital divide by repurposing old laptops and Macbooks with open source software. This initiative has been integral in providing essential technology to refugees, homeless individuals transitioning into permanent accommodation, and older people with limited access to technology.
Through partnerships with various organizations, SocialBox.Biz has been able to provide these devices to those in need, not only providing a means for communication and connectivity, but also opening up opportunities for education, employment, and social inclusion.
“Technology is a powerful tool that can change lives,” says founder Peter Paduh. “By repurposing old laptops and Macbooks, we are not only increasing the impact for participating companies, but also empowering individuals and communities to thrive in today’s digital world.”
In addition to providing devices, SocialBox.Biz also offers digital skills training to help recipients make the most of their technology and stay connected. The organization is currently seeking companies and large universities to sponsor their training programs.
With the mountains of old computers and tech in London alone, SocialBox.Biz is calling on businesses and individuals to donate their unwanted devices and join them in their mission to bridge the digital divide and change lives. Donations not only assist the homeless and elderly pensioners, but also contribute to reducing Scope 3 emissions.
As Refugee Week (June 17-23, 2024) and London Tech Week (June 10-14, 2024) approach, SocialBox.Biz is encouraging individuals and organizations to get involved and make a difference. By partnering with SocialBox.Biz, companies can pledge to a more sustainable and impactful way of solving their old tech and impact problems.
