Facing the challenge of rapidly advancing medical knowledge and escalating workloads, Smart Reporting is innovating in the healthcare field. They have incorporated large language model (LLM) technology into their SmartReports software, utilising the AI capabilities of Amazon Bedrock. This integration is set to enhance the reporting processes for healthcare professionals, ultimately leading to better patient care. This exciting development will be previewed at RSNA in Chicago and is expected to hit the US market in the first half of 2024.
Radiology professionals often encounter challenges with inconsistent manual reports and unstructured, non-machine-readable data that impede advanced analysis and effective treatment planning. The integration with Amazon Bedrock will empower SmartReports to provide:
- A significant reduction in the effort required for report creation, thanks to automatic impression suggestion.
- Increased research and organisational efficiency with structured, machine-readable data, improving clinical decision-making data quality by 60% and report accuracy and detail by 150%. [1, 2] According to research, structured reporting in pathology can lead to a 4.3% decrease in patient mortality [3]. These innovative features will be incorporated into the Smart Reporting suite, allowing US customers to benefit from AI assistance from 2024.
Prof. Wieland Sommer, the founder and CEO of Smart Reporting, said, “We are always looking for ways to make radiology reporting faster and more efficient. We have been open to technology and vendors and are working agnostically to broadly integrate LLMs into our software. By building on Amazon Bedrock, we are able to leverage their state-of-the-art AI technology to enhance our radiology reporting solution. With automated impression suggestion, we will provide our customers with faster, better, and smarter reports that ultimately benefit patients.”
Dr. Razvan Ionasec of Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL commented, “Healthcare professionals can benefit from seamless and efficient AI-enhanced reporting experience, spend less time on documentation and focus more on delivery of person-centered healthcare with improved outcomes.” Similarly, Dr. Dominik Nörenberg noted, “Integrating cutting-edge AI into our reporting paradigm has been nothing short of revolutionary.”
Demonstrations of this LLM-powered feature will be available at both the Smart Reporting and AWS booths at RSNA in Chicago.
