On December 6-8, 2023, the Global Hygiene Symposium will take place in Singapore. Hosted by the Reckitt Global Hygiene Institute (RGHI) and Chatham House, the symposium aims to bring together a diverse array of researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to drive innovative solutions in global health and prioritize hygiene as a crucial component of overall wellbeing and global health security.
The facilitator for the symposium is Clarissa Brocklehurst, a water supply, sanitation, and hygiene specialist with nearly 40 years of experience in international development.
The agenda will focus on various issues related to hygiene and health globally, including hand hygiene, zoonosis, food hygiene, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), women’s health, and environmental health. Each session will identify research gaps and potential remedies, and discuss how research can effectively shape policy and action. The goal is to amplify the impact of research on policy decisions and to propose strategies to bridge the divide between research and policymaking.
The symposium also offers a platform for hygiene researchers and practitioners to cultivate a shared understanding of the evidence that underpins advancements in public health results. Through dialogue between public policymakers, researchers, and hygiene practitioners, the symposium will strengthen the understanding of the pathways to comprehensive hygiene strategies and generate actionable recommendations to influence global health security measures.
