Routemaster 70 to Be Inaugurated by Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill on Upcoming Weekend

Routemaster Association to hold Routemaster 70 event this weekend
London, UK – The Routemaster Association is pleased to announce that Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill, Minister of State for the Department of Transport, will be the official guest of honor at the opening of Routemaster 70 this Saturday.

Routemaster 70 is a family-friendly event that celebrates 70 years since the first London Routemaster double-decker bus went into production. The event will be held at Chiswick Park in London on Saturday, July 20th and Sunday, July 21st, 2024.

“We are thrilled to have Lord Hendy open Routemaster 70,” said John Ward, Chairman of the Routemaster Association. “As a proud owner of several preserved Routemaster buses and a long-standing member of our association, his presence adds great excitement to the event.”

Routemaster 70 will be the largest gathering of Routemaster buses since Routemaster 60, a decade ago. Over 90 iconic buses have been booked to attend the two-day event, offering visitors a unique opportunity to see and ride these beautiful vintage vehicles. The event will take place at Chiswick Park, the very location where trainee drivers were once tested on the infamous Chiswick skid pan.

Along with an impressive display of preserved Routemaster buses, visitors will also have the chance to step back in time with free rides on vintage buses along a dedicated circular route starting and ending at Chiswick Park. The event will also feature trade stands and a converted Routemaster bus that now serves as a bar.
