London, UK – In 2024, the iconic Routemaster bus, RM1, will celebrate its 70th anniversary. To commemorate this momentous occasion, the Routemaster Association will be hosting a special free event, RM70, at Chiswick Park in London on the weekend of July 20th and 21st, 2024.
This family-friendly event will feature a lineup of surviving Routemaster buses, now mostly in private hands. Visitors will have the opportunity to take free rides on the buses between the event site and the London Transport Museum in Acton. For photography enthusiasts, the event will also provide a unique opportunity to capture a stunning photo of 70 Routemasters on display.
The last major Routemaster event, RM60, was held in Finsbury Park in 2014 and proved to be a huge success, attracting thousands of visitors. Over 130 Routemasters were in attendance, with some buses even traveling from Europe to participate.
Chiswick Park was selected as the venue for RM70 due to its historical connection with the Routemaster bus. Before the modern business park was built, the site was home to one of London Transport’s main bus overhaul works and was renowned for its impressive skid pan, where trainee drivers were put to the test.
