We Are Survivors, a charity dedicated to supporting male victims and survivors of sexual abuse, has unveiled its highly-anticipated quarterly magazine, Beyond The Silence. The debut issue, released on Monday 3 June 2024, was launched with the help of Richard Gadd, creator of the internationally acclaimed Netflix series Baby Reindeer.
This is the first publication from We Are Survivors and aims to provide a platform for important discussions on male sexual abuse, rape, and exploitation. According to the magazine’s editor, Grahame Robertson, the decision to move from a newsletter format to a magazine was driven by the organization’s vision of a society where no male survivor is left behind. He stated, “With such a bold vision, we need an equally bold way to get the UK talking.”
The premier issue of Beyond The Silence features the latest news from the sexual violence sector, updates on the organization’s two new digital campaigns focusing on ChemSex and being an ally for survivors, and a showcase of the new community space. However, the highlight of the magazine is its cover star, Richard Gadd, who has been an ambassador for We Are Survivors for over a decade. In an exclusive interview, Gadd discusses the impact of Baby Reindeer and why he is a proud supporter of the organization. He also opens up about how using his own experience as a survivor has been therapeutic and how a conversation with the charity’s founder, Duncan Craig OBE, highlighted the importance of support for male survivors.
