Record-breaking festival of running celebrated by Chilterns Neuro Centre

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, a large group of runners took to the streets of Prestwood for the annual Run Prestwood event, organized by the Chilterns Neuro Centre. The event, which included a 10k race, a 5k fun run, and a 2k race for children, was a huge success, with a record-breaking 263 participants of all ages and skill levels.

Not only did the runners enjoy the beautiful weather, but they also helped raise an impressive £10,300 for the Chilterns Neuro Centre. This amount will go towards providing vital services for individuals with neurological conditions. The charity, formerly known as the Chilterns MS Centre, expanded its services in 2023 to include support for those affected by Parkinson’s and strokes.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who participated, supported, volunteered, and sponsored this event,” said Danielle Medd, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at the Chilterns Neuro Centre. “Today’s race was not only a test of physical endurance but also a testament to the supportive nature of our community.”

Helen Mulhall from Bearbrook Running Club took first place in the women’s 10k race, finishing with a time of 42m 19s. Adam Shute from Chiltern Harriers Athletic Club defended his title in the men’s 10k race, finishing with a time of 35m 41s. While Adam missed out on breaking his previous year’s course record by just one second, his back-to-back wins were still an impressive feat.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the support of sponsors. Jeremy Swan Estate Agent was the event sponsor, while Prestwood Gym and Fitness Centre provided the venue. Students from Bucks New University also contributed by offering pre- and post-race massages. Goody bags were supplied by Tesco in Amersham and Morrisons in Aylesbury, while Prestwood Stores generously provided water bottles.

The Rotary Club of Great Missenden and District and the 41 Club also played a crucial role in the event’s success by providing teams of marshals and volunteers. Their dedication ensured the safety and smooth running of the event for all participants.
