Prime minister’s budget update harshly criticized by leading Conservative, while Reform party leader supports 1066 chart.

British political leaders have officially launched their campaigns after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a general election to take place on 4 July.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Opposition Leader Keir Starmer were among those who hit the ground running, hoping to gain support from voters ahead of the upcoming election.

In his announcement, PM Johnson stated that the decision to hold a general election was necessary in order to move the country forward after months of political turmoil. He emphasized the need for strong leadership and a clear direction for the future.

“We need to come together as a nation and make important decisions about our future,” Johnson said. “This general election will give the British people the opportunity to choose who they want to lead our country and navigate us through these challenging times.”

Sunak, who is representing the Conservative Party, highlighted the government’s efforts to support the economy and protect jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also promised to prioritize public health and safety in the face of ongoing challenges.

Meanwhile, Starmer of the Labour Party focused on the need for accountability and transparency in the government’s handling of the pandemic. He also pledged to fight for the interests of the working class and prioritize rebuilding the economy.

Other party leaders, including Jo Swinson of the Liberal Democrats and Nicola Sturgeon of the Scottish National Party, also took to the campaign trail to share their visions for the future of the country.
