Discount retailer breaks new ground as one-stop Back-To-School shop

From polos to pencils, Poundland will offer a complete back-to-school collection for the first time in its 28-year history and establish the discount retailer as a new ‘one-stop shop’ on local high streets.

With its fashion brand PEP&CO now in over 300 Poundland stores across the United Kingdom and Ireland, Poundland will offer school uniforms alongside must-have classroom essentials such as stationery and pencils.

The move – part of a rapid 18 months transformation of its stores investing over £18 million – has opened up space to deliver a full PEP&CO ‘shop-in-shop’ in hundreds of locations, with extensive ranges for kids, women and men that start at just £1.

The swift expansion of Poundland into value clothing has come just in time to provide an alternative for high streets that are losing big anchor brands such as Marks & Spencer.

But it’s not just the back-to-school clothing that’s new at Poundland. The discount retailer has also invested in developing exciting general merchandise ranges that set new standards including stylish stationery at more than half the price of specialists such as WH Smith, Paperchase and Smiggle.

“This is an important moment for Poundland – being able, thanks to our roll-out of PEP&CO, to bring a one-stop back-to-school choice on high streets our customers love and live,” said Poundland UK & Ireland Managing Director Barry Williams.

“What’s more, whether it’s back-to-school wear or essential supplies, we’ve been anything but ‘stationary’ – we’ve investing in improving quality and style with the value we’re already famous for,” he added.

A recent survey showed that parents nationwide are predicted to spend in excess of £1.4 billion getting the UK’s 8.5 million children ready for the start of term – equating to £174.31 per child to purchase items such as jumpers, blazers, ties, shoes and sports kit.[1]

With PEP&CO offering great quality clothing, savvy shoppers are now able to get their hands on brilliant uniform basics. The range includes polo shirts, sweatshirts, skirts, trousers, pinafores and cardigans with prices starting at just £1 – and a whole uniform at just £6 [2].

Shoppers will also be able to purchase unisex polo shirts from £1, with PEP&CO one of the only stores on the high street offering both single and two pack options. Other retailers tend to only sell as multipack options.

Poundland stationery and school essentials are largely £1 and parents will be as excited as their kids when they see what’s in store.

New eye-catching stationery range featuring everything from bright pens, pencil cases and pen pots to document wallets, notebooks and academic calendars, all priced at just £1.

The full Back to School range from Poundland and PEP&CO is available in stores nationwide from today.
