Penguin Peloton Takes on 250-Mile Cycling Challenge to Raise £50,000 for Cancer Charity
London, United Kingdom – The Penguin Peloton, a group of dedicated cyclists, will embark on a three-day journey spanning 250 miles from Guy’s Hospital Tower in London to Blackpool Tower in Lancashire. The event, scheduled for May 3-5, 2024, aims to raise £50,000 for Penguins Against Cancer (PAC), a registered charity dedicated to fighting cancer.
Established in 2013 by members of The Penguins, the veterans rugby team from Guys Hospital, PAC has since garnered support from students, alumni, colleagues, friends, and family across various hospitals and organizations. The charity is entirely run by volunteers and has no administrative or running costs, ensuring that 100% of donations go directly towards the fight against cancer.
George Tsolakides, a member of the Penguin Peloton, expressed his gratitude for being a part of this fundraising effort: “When asked to take part in a cycling fundraiser for PAC, a charity started by a group of my friends, I felt honored. Being able to support this wonderful charity in its fight against cancer, after experiencing the loss of close family and friends to the disease, holds profound significance.”
PAC not only raises cancer awareness but also provides financial grants to support cancer research, treatment, and hospices. Currently, the charity finances three separate cancer research funds. Through their efforts, individuals and donors associated with PAC play a vital role in educating others about the realities of the disease and dispelling myths and misconceptions. By sharing their personal journeys, they hope to foster understanding and empathy, ultimately leading to greater support for those affected by cancer.
The fundraising target for the Guys Hospital to Blackpool ride is set at £50,000, which would mark a significant milestone for PAC, bringing their total funds raised and disbursed to £500,000. The money raised will be used to raise cancer awareness and provide financial support to cancer research, treatment, and hospices. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be made through the Penguin Peloton fundraising page at https://gofund.me/a665486d or directly on the PAC website at www.penguinsagainstcancer.org.uk/donate.
