Hope Spring, a Hereford-based charity focused on alleviating water poverty, announced a new partnership with online training website odurinde.com on Monday, February 17th, 2025. This collaboration will see odurinde.com hosting water purification and hygiene training workshops in ten locations across Nigeria. The initiative is one of several projects planned by Hope Spring to commemorate its 10th anniversary this year.
Having primarily worked in West Africa, the charity is dedicated to providing clean water to communities in dire need. Their efforts have resulted in the construction of boreholes and wells in various areas across West Africa, with a particular focus on Nigeria. Through this new partnership, Hope Spring aims to extend its reach by training local water and sanitation champions within their communities.
These champions will then educate others on the importance of clean water and how to purify water sourced from nearby rivers and lakes, ultimately reducing water scarcity and the spread of diseases caused by contaminated water.
According to Tomi Onigbinde, a volunteer at Hope Spring, the charity will continue to construct wells and boreholes for deserving communities. However, training them on how to purify available water sources is a more cost-effective and sustainable way to provide clean water. Onigbinde added that this approach is not only more affordable, but also less problematic than constructing boreholes.
A shortlist of potential beneficiary communities has been identified, and Hope Spring and odurinde.com are set to roll out the training project in May of 2025. The charity funds its projects through donations from the public, as well as through the sale of digital goods on its online greetings card website.
