OXLABS and NTT PARAVITA Collaborate to Transform Sleep and Wellbeing of UK’s Ageing Population

Last Updated on: 3rd January 2024, 06:34 pm

Today, OXLABS, a UK-based AI and care-tech company committed to enhancing elderly life quality, announced their strategic collaboration with NTT PARAVITA, a leading Japanese technology company specialising in healthcare services to improve essential sleep.

NTT PARAVITA, a collaborative effort between NTT West and Paramount Bed, is a prominent player in Japan’s market for medical beds and under-mattress sleep sensors.

At the forefront of innovation, OXLABS is developing HABITA™, the world’s most advanced in-room wellness monitoring system, employing the latest AI technology to enhance the wellbeing of the elderly and facilitate pre-symptomatic disease detection.

This partnership merges the missions of both companies to leverage breakthrough technology in addressing sleep-related issues in communities, which are intricately linked to health conditions such as cardiac problems, dementia, and diabetes. The Sleep Foundation reports that chronic sleep issues affect 40% to 70% of older adults, with many cases remaining undiagnosed. The partnership’s first UK product will be NTT PARAVITA’s established under-mattress sleep sensor, a success in Japan.

Katrina Douglas, CEO of OXLABS, shared her excitement: “We are delighted to partner with such a well-established and trusted Japanese company as NTT PARAVITA. With one of the oldest populations in the world, Japan has advanced expertise in addressing sleep challenges in the UK. We believe the combination of our HABITA solution and NTT PARAVITA’s sleep sensor represents an effective and much-needed offering for the UK market.”

Yasuo Makibayashi, General Manager of NTT PARAVITA, remarked: “We chose OXLABS as our trial partner for the UK because of their technical expertise, innovative solution and market development approach. We also value the calibre of the team with Mike Lawton having founded and invested in one of the fastest-growing spacetech startups in the UK and now OXLABS. The team has more than 80 years of combined business leadership experience, and we saw the degree of their knowledge from the beginning and are delighted to be launching our products with OXLABS in the UK.”

The partnership’s genesis was influenced by OXLABS’ participation in the National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA)’s first Healthy Ageing Accelerator, which nurtured an ethos of international expansion and shaped their go-to-market strategy.

Endorsing the collaboration, Nic Palmarini, Director of the UK’s National Innovation Centre for Ageing, stated: “There is a radical need for innovation in ageing and longevity. Our work with OXLABS reflects our strategy of supporting both companies and the whole industry to develop intelligence centred on data and people’s desires by integrating those innovations – process or technological – that accelerate the development of solutions for our healthy longevity. These innovations matter to a global audience, which is why we have been active from the start in supporting OXLABS’ journey to help make their solution a reference.”

The partnership also plans to collaborate with innovative retirement homes in the UK for trialling the sleep monitor and is currently pursuing seed investment opportunities. Interested parties are encouraged to reach out to katrina@oxlabs.io.
