Lincolnshire’s historic town of Norton Disney is set to be the next destination for Time Team, the renowned British archaeology series. The classic three-day dig, scheduled for early October, is expected to uncover a wealth of historical treasures and reveal the fascinating stories hidden beneath the surface.
With its medieval origins and connections to Walt Disney, the town of Norton Disney holds countless secrets waiting to be unearthed. “We’re excited to be coming to Norton Disney and delve deeper into its history,” states Tim Taylor, creator and series producer of Time Team. “Every dig presents a new opportunity to uncover hidden stories and connect with the past. Norton Disney is no exception, and we’re eager to see what discoveries await us.”
Fresh off their recent successful excavation at the iconic Sutton Hoo, Time Team guarantees a similarly intriguing glimpse into Norton Disney’s heritage. The dig, which focuses on local history and community involvement, aims to engage residents and enthusiasts in the excitement of archaeological exploration.
Professor Carenza Lewis, a renowned archaeologist and long-time member of Time Team, stresses the importance of community involvement on digs: “Engaging the local community is essential for fostering a sense of ownership and pride in our shared heritage. By involving residents in the excavation process, we not only gain valuable insights but also strengthen the bonds between people and the places they call home.”
Richard Parker, secretary of the Norton Disney History and Archaeology Group, shares his excitement for the upcoming dig: “There is now a chance to more fully reveal the town’s intriguing medieval past. The Disney family dominated the area for 400 years and really left their mark. The Disneys were Medieval knights and courtiers to the King, and we would love to find out more evidence of their time here.”
