New Series of International Drama Collaboration Presented at Series Mania in Lille

Wednesday 26 March, 2025 – The highly successful first series of New8, a collaboration between eight public broadcasters, has paved the way for the launch of new projects. These new projects were officially presented today at Series Mania in Lille. The partners of New8 – SVT (Sweden), DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland), RÚV (Iceland), NRK (Norway), VRT (Flanders, Belgium), NPO (Netherlands) and ZDF (Germany) – have joined forces to produce eight drama series since the collaboration began in 2023. The aim of New8 is to produce high-quality series that cross borders and reflect the values of public service media while appealing to a broad audience.

The second slate of projects chosen for this collaboration once again showcases a diverse range of genres and topics. These include historical and social dramas, family stories, crime series, and mystery series. The selected projects are “Breendonk” (VRT, Belgium, 6×54 minutes), “Phoenix” (ZDF, Germany, 6×45 minutes), “The Machine” (NPO/BNNVARA, The Netherlands, 6×54 minutes), “Henki” (NRK, Norway, 6×45 minutes), “Cold Song” (SVT, Sweden, 6×45 minutes), “Generations” (DR, Denmark, 6×60 minutes), “Death of a Horse” (RÚV, Iceland, 6×52 minutes), and “The Dark Ones” (ZDF, Germany, 6×45 minutes).

The first eight series produced through this collaboration have already been released. These include “Vanguard” (SVT), “Elixir” (NPO), “Queen of Fucking Everything” (YLE), “Holmlia Love” (NRK), “Other People’s Money” (DR/ZDF), “This is Not a Murder Mystery” (VRT), “Push”, and “Kabul” (ZDF). Many of these series have received national and international recognition, such as ZDF’s “Push” (German Television Award 2024) and “Kabul” (Series Mania 2025 – International Competition), as well as “Other People’s Money” (Berlinale 2025 – Panorama section), and “Generations” (Series Mania 2025 – International Competition), both brought into the collaboration by Danish broadcaster DR.
