New Service Matches World’s Most Popular Jobs With Skills Required

“What do you want to be when you grow-up?” is an easy question for a child, however, “what do you want to be next?” is a tough one for an adult.

The social learning platform, FutureLearn, is helping people answer the latter question by releasing an interactive tool that shows the world’s most in-demand jobs and what requirements that are needed to apply for them.

According to a statement released by FutureLearn, this interactive skills matching service “aims to highlight the most in-demand jobs, both in the UK and internationally, and match them to the skills most commonly mentioned in job descriptions.”

It works by examining popular job and network websites for vacancies and citing the most common skills associated within these advertisements.

Not only will job hunters be able to see what requirements they will need to add to their CV for applying to certain jobs, they will also be able to see what jobs they already have the skills for and have not yet considered.

This is an amazing tool to have during such an unprecedented time in the job market. The UK’s economy has been hit severely by the coronavirus and any chance of recovery will be somewhat dependent on having the right workforce in place.

Catalina Schveninger, Chief People Officer at FutureLearn, discussed the usefulness of this tool, particularly for those who have suffered job losses during the pandemic.

She said: “This year has been one of the most challenging for professionals of all backgrounds, especially the millions whose career paths have been disrupted or redirected by the pandemic.

“That’s why at FutureLearn we’re proud to launch our new skills matcher tool. Using data-driven insights alongside FutureLearn’s broad portfolio of expert-led, career-focussed courses, we hope this new tool will provide clarity and support for those looking to gain valuable employment insights as well as the skills needed to enter high-demand roles in areas such as graphic design, teaching, nursing and more.”

FutureLearn was founded by the Open University in 2012 and is now a jointly owned venture between the aforementioned organisation and The Seek Group.
