National Energy Action and Gas Call Services Team Up to Fight Fuel Poverty in the North East

Last Updated on: 22nd November 2023, 05:57 am

Gas Call Services has joined forces with National Energy Action (NEA) to launch a new initiative designed to tackle fuel poverty in the North East of England. The project seeks to provide free combination boiler installations to eligible households in the region and help individuals and families access safe and reliable heating.

Managing Director, Mike Donelly said: “Bringing warmth to the homes of the most vulnerable in our community is not just a project; it’s a mission that fuels our passion every day. Our partnership with National Energy Action (NEA) allows us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing fuel poverty. Together, we are dedicated to ensuring that no one has to endure the cold without access to safe and reliable heating. This project represents a commitment to our neighbours, and we’re proud to be part of a collective effort to create warmer, safer homes in the North East of England.”

The project has been created in response to the Annual Fuel Poverty Statistics Report, which predicts that in 2023, fuel poverty will increase to 14.4 per cent (3.53 million) with the average fuel poverty gap rising by 31 per cent in real terms to £443 (in 2022 prices).

To qualify for a free boiler installation, individuals must meet specific criteria that have been carefully designed to target those who are truly in need. Eligibility criteria include being a Guarantee Credit Recipient, being on a low-income with high energy costs, receiving qualifying means-tested benefits or Tax Credits, being over 65 years of age, having a child under 5 in the household, or having a long-term illness or disability exacerbated by the cold.

The initiative also works with transparency and integrity to ensure that support reaches those who require it the most. This fund is not part of the national ECO fund and the qualifying criteria are better suited to struggling residents.

The partnership with NEA enhances the project’s impact by leveraging their expertise and network in this field. This limited funding is set to expire in March 2024, making it essential for efficient and effective project management to achieve the desired outcomes in the given timeframe.

Anyone who believes they qualify for this fund can visit the Gas Call website and apply for the free boiler eligibility application form.
