The recent capsizing of the Bayesian superyacht, owned by British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, has raised questions about the safety of such vessels. However, according to Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, the manufacturer and seller of the Bayesian, there are no flaws with the design and construction of these yachts. In fact, Costantino asserts that they are “the safest in the most absolute sense.”
Speaking to news sources, Costantino explained that the Bayesian, like all Perini boats, is known for its impeccable design and construction. He emphasized that sailing ships, in general, are renowned for their safety. This is due to their sturdy structure and keel, which make them “unsinkable bodies.”
The tragic incident, which resulted in the death of six individuals, has left Costantino in a state of sadness and disbelief. He expressed his condolences for the victims and their families, stating, “This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact.”
Italian prosecutors are currently investigating the capsizing and have been conducting interviews with the survivors. The captain was questioned for over two hours on Tuesday, in an effort to reconstruct the events and gather technical details. Additionally, four British inspectors have arrived in Porticello to conduct a preliminary assessment of the incident. They will thoroughly examine all aspects, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel, as well as the weather conditions at the time.
Out of the 22 people on board the Bayesian, 15 were rescued, including British passenger Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia. Divers are set to resume their search for the remaining missing person on Thursday morning, after successfully bringing ashore one body earlier.
The CEO of The Italian Sea Group stands by the safety record of their vessels, and the company continues to cooperate with authorities in the investigation. As the search and investigation continue, we offer our deepest sympathy to all those affected by this tragedy.
