Local charity calls on government to lead necessary changes following Grenfell disaster

Local Charity Calls for Action Following Grenfell Tower Inquiry Report

London, UK – A local charity, North Kensington Law Centre, has responded to the recent release of the Grenfell Tower disaster’s inquiry report. The charity, which has been serving the Grenfell Tower community for six decades, including several victims and survivors, has called for sustained attention to addressing the issues highlighted in the report.

Located near the site of the tragic fire that claimed 72 lives, North Kensington Law Centre has been providing free legal advice to those affected by the disaster since day one. In light of the inquiry report, the charity is urging the new government to show leadership and take action to bring about the necessary changes for the community.

The charity supports the Inquiry’s findings that the fire was a result of multiple failures and a culture of deregulation and indifference in the building industry. It also highlights the complicity of oversight bodies in misleading the public and the chronic and systemic failures of the local authority and Tenant Management Organisation in regards to fire safety.

The inquiry report also sheds light on the lack of public accountability in cases like this, as previously highlighted by the former Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Reverend James Jones. In 2017, Jones called for a Duty of Candour to be enshrined in law to strengthen public accountability. However, this has yet to be implemented.

North Kensington Law Centre is also calling on the Prime Minister to expedite the examination of implementing all 58 recommendations from the inquiry report. The charity remains committed to supporting the local community and holding the government accountable for its promises.
