“Kuwait’s Expo 2025 Pavilion Illuminates the Country’s History, Present, and Future Through a Visionary Lighthouse”

Kuwait Pavilion at World Expo 2025 Unveiled in Tokyo Ceremony

Tokyo, Japan – The State of Kuwait and its partners, NUSSLI, LAVA, and insglück, proudly presented the architecture and exhibition of the Kuwait Pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. The unveiling ceremony, held in Tokyo on March 5, 2024, was attended by distinguished guests from politics, business, media, and society.

Salem Al-Watyan, Commissioner General of the State of Kuwait for Expo 2025 Osaka, expressed his excitement for the upcoming Expo, stating, “We are pleased and honored to unveil the State of Kuwait’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. It will serve to forge bridges of friendship and solidarity between Kuwait and Japan, as well as among all nations around the world.”

Al-Watyan highlighted the significant milestones in bilateral cooperation, partnership, and solidarity between Kuwait and Japan, dating back to Expo 1970 in Osaka, where Kuwait was one of only four Arab nations present.

He also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the numerous teams involved in the project, including the executive, technical, content creation, media campaign, and coordination and follow-up teams. These teams are working tirelessly with Expo management and main partner NUSSLI to prepare, equip, and implement this ambitious project.

The Kuwait Pavilion’s exhibition will showcase the country’s efforts towards a sustainable future, a diversified economy, and focused national development. Known for its contributions to Arab culture, arts, and social work, Kuwait will present itself as a Visionary Lighthouse, illuminating the Gulf region and gaining recognition globally.

Harald Dosch, Director Business Development of NUSSLI, emphasized the company’s proven expertise in the construction of country pavilions, stating, “We are proud to support our client’s ambitious project and, together with our project partners, we will make Kuwait’s appearance at the Expo 2025 Osaka an outstanding success.”

This marks the second time NUSSLI is building the Kuwait Pavilion, following Expo 2015 Milano. The other project partners include LAVA for architecture, insglück for the exhibition, schlaich bergermann partner for structural engineering, Tokuoka Sekkei as the Japanese architect of record, and Mugishima Construction as the Japanese construction company.

The pavilion’s architecture, designed by LAVA, seamlessly blends Kuwait’s natural environment and traditions. Christian Tschersich, Associate Partner at LAVA, explains, “With the concept of the Visionary Lighthouse, we aim to showcase Kuwait’s timeless vision for the future at Expo 2025 in Osaka.”

The pavilion’s bright, illuminated façade at night further emphasizes the theme of the “Visionary Lighthouse.” The main space, designed as a central dome, is inspired by the idea of resting in the desert at night under the starry sky. The courtyard at the back of the pavilion features a traditional Islamic architecture and a beautiful garden with typical Kuwaiti planting.

The exhibition, created by insglück, creatively combines tradition and high-tech in four exhibition rooms, taking visitors on a journey through Kuwait’s past, present, and future. Christian Poswa, CEO of insglück, states, “We are creating another Expo experience that will captivate millions of visitors in Osaka.”

The exhibition starts with a pre-show that inspires visitors to visualize the secrets of Kuwait in a supersized pearl. The next room conveys the country’s history in a desert setting, followed by an interactive wall showcasing Kuwaiti society’s diversity. The main show, a dome projection, allows visitors to actively shape the future by sharing their wishes and dreams.

Andreas Schnubel, Managing Director of schlaich bergermann partner, adds, “It was a great pleasure to work with our partners from NUSSLI and LAVA again, developing a structural concept that meets both structural optimization and geometric form finding requirements.”

The next World Expo, themed “Designing Future Society for our Lives,” will take place in Osaka, Japan, from April 13 to October 13, 2025. The Kuwait Pavilion, located in the “Empowering Lives” sub-theme, will be a highlight with its striking façade and inspiring exhibition.
