“King’s Speech Announcement to Halve Violence Against Women and Girls Welcomed by White Ribbon UK”

Government Commits to Halve Violence Against Women and Girls, White Ribbon UK Welcomes Announcement

On Wednesday 17 July, 2024, White Ribbon UK expressed their support for the new Government’s commitment to halve violence against women and girls, reaffirming their manifesto pledge.

Anthea Sully, Chief Executive of White Ribbon, stated, “The Government’s commitment to halve violence can only be achieved through investing in Primary Prevention strategies that target harmful attitudes and behaviors that lead to gender-based violence. This includes engaging with men and boys to promote positive change and combat harmful cultural norms.”

Sully emphasized the need for a whole-society approach to effectively address this issue, working with individuals and organizations to coordinate efforts towards attitudinal and behavioral change.

As the UK’s leading charity engaging men and boys to prevent violence against women and girls, White Ribbon continues to advocate for government investment in Primary Prevention strategies. This will allow expert organizations like White Ribbon to sustainably carry out their crucial work.

The demand for support in this area is evident, with over 400 organizations and nearly 7000 individuals directly supporting White Ribbon’s work in England and Wales. These individuals have made a commitment to working towards the prevention of harm against women and girls.

White Ribbon looks forward to learning more about the Government’s plans to achieve their target and create a safer environment for all women.
