That’s why many public buildings such as schools, retail outlets and hospitality venues – plus cultural and leisure spaces such as gyms, museums and galleries – have sought to keep their doors open. No-one touches the handles or door surface, and the risk of spreading infection is minimised.
But leaving entrances open to the outside air means that shops, restaurants, educational institutions and many more places are suffering from hugely increased utility bills. In fact, letting the heat escape from a building through open doors can lead to a heating bill that’s up to a quarter more expensive according to some research. And that’s without considering the impact on the environment of such a practice.
Inside public buildings, moreover, any fire doors must be kept shut anyway, no matter how highly trafficked these areas are, as a matter of simple health and safety.
Fortunately, there is a cost-effective solution to help keep doors shut, whether internal fire doors, or exits and entrances onto the street. British company Veraco has come up with the answer to this tricky conundrum: antimicrobial products.
The range that Veraco has devised is specifically designed for push-open doors and food handles – in fact any frequently touched surface. And Veraco firmly believes it’s what its both customers need and want.
“Our product development is based on insight and demand,” says Veraco’s co-founder, George Strong. “The insight we gathered was clear: businesses were having to keep their doors open in order to stay open.”
Veraco’s antimicrobial range for these frequently touched surfaces in public places like door handles and push doors uses something called ‘Silver Ion’. This is a technology that can eradicate up to 99.99% of common bacteria and superbugs on touch, by actively attacking and destroying dangerous pathogens. This means it’s an effective weapon against the spread of coronavirus.
And of course, with outside temperatures dipping as we move into winter, the need to be able to shut those doors is more pressing than ever. George Strong again: “We’re extremely pleased to have developed a product in time that allows businesses to keep doors shut AND stay open”.
