Katie Price, the former glamour model known by her legal name Katerina Price, will have her TikTok income suspended as part of ongoing efforts to resolve her bankruptcy case, a court has ruled.
Despite being served notice at her given addresses, the 46-year-old did not attend the virtual hearing. Just hours before the hearing, Price took to TikTok to announce that she would be going live on the platform later that evening.
The proceedings were overseen by Insolvency and Companies Court Judge Catherine Burton, with lawyer Darragh Connell representing the trustees and lawyer Lauren Kreamer representing TikTok.
During the hearing, Mr Connell expressed concern that payments to Price via the social media site had been made without the knowledge of the trustees. He revealed that TikTok had paid Price £95,000 between March and May of this year.
Furthermore, there was discussion regarding whether TikTok should divert 100% of Price’s earnings via the site to the bankruptcy trustees. As a result, Mr Connell requested that TikTok suspend payments to Price until the details of the bankruptcy payments were resolved.
Ms Kreamer assured the court that TikTok was willing to comply with the ruling and was not being obstructive or difficult. However, she also stated that there may be some delay as TikTok investigates whether their company algorithm is able to divert part or all of a content creator’s payment.
Ultimately, Judge Burton ruled in favor of a stay of payments to Price until an agreed percentage of her TikTok earnings can be diverted to the trustees. This is subject to confirmation from the company that this is feasible.
Price’s next bankruptcy hearing is scheduled to take place at the Rolls Building on Tuesday 27 August. While she is currently expected to attend in person, she may apply to appear remotely.
In July, Price was arrested at Heathrow Airport after missing a bankruptcy hearing. She had been returning from Turkey, where she had undergone cosmetic surgery. The following week, she appeared in court and was told by Judge Burton that she must attend future court hearings without fail.
Price was declared bankrupt in March due to an unpaid tax bill of over £750,000. Sky News has reached out to Price for comment.
