Hamburg to Host 835th Port Anniversary in May 2024
Hamburg, Germany- The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is pleased to announce the upcoming celebration of the 835th Hamburg Port Anniversary from May 9th to 12th, 2024. This annual event, known as the maritime birthday party, promises to offer a diverse program for visitors. This year, the international country partner will be Latvia.
The festivities will kick off with the International Ecumenical Opening Service at the main Church of St. Michael’s on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by the arrival parade at 4 p.m. led by the frigate “Hamburg”. Other traditional highlights include the unique tugboat ballet on Saturday at 5 p.m. and the departure parade on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. These events are expected to draw in a large number of visitors.
Over 250 ships from around the world will be making their way to Hamburg, including the impressive tall ships “Dar Młodzieży” and “Alexander von Humboldt II”.
Music on the Elbe will be a major attraction, with a surprise show scheduled for Friday evening at 8:45 p.m. A floating stage will transform the Elbe into a sea of lights, accompanied by a special soundtrack and a unique show program. The evening will culminate in a grand finale, followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
On Saturday at 10:30 p.m., AIDA Cruises will be inviting visitors to a particularly stunning maritime highlight. AIDAprima will be shining in the heart of Hamburg, showcasing the Elbe in a whole new light.
