“Join the Walking Challenge for Change: Support Street Children in Kolkata”

The Hope Foundation for Street Children (HOPE) has announced its latest initiative, Footsteps for HOPE, which invites schools, community groups, walking clubs, and individuals to join in a month-long challenge starting on 1 April. The aim of this challenge is to walk 10,000 steps per day and raise awareness and support for vulnerable children in Kolkata, India.

This initiative coincides with International Day for Street Children on 12 April, highlighting the urgent need to provide aid to street-connected children in Kolkata. These children often come from families who struggle to access basic necessities such as food, clean water, and a safe place to sleep. Many are also forced to work at a young age, making them vulnerable to exploitation, trafficking, and abuse.

By participating in Footsteps for HOPE, individuals are not only improving their own physical health, but they are also taking steps towards providing education and support for disadvantaged children in Kolkata. These children are given the opportunity to gain valuable skills and knowledge, breaking the cycle of poverty and creating a brighter future for themselves. It is especially important to note that the majority of these children are first-generation learners.

According to recent statistics, 96% of children aged 6-14 years old are attending school in the slums where HOPE operates. In the past year alone, 9020 children have received educational support through HOPE’s various programs, including creches, Naboasha centers, special education projects, educational sponsorships, and the Quality and Inclusive Education Programme.

HOPE also works closely with 47 schools and 15 government resource centers, enabling over 4,000 children to complete their elementary education in child-friendly and inclusive environments.

All funds raised through Footsteps for HOPE will go directly towards HOPE’s education programs. It is crucial to remember that education is a fundamental right, and by taking part in this challenge, schools, community groups, and individual supporters can make a significant impact in the lives of these vulnerable children.

To take part in Footsteps for HOPE, interested individuals can sign up on the HOPE website at www.thehopefoundation.org.uk/footsteps. Join the challenge today and make a difference in the lives of street-connected children in Kolkata.
