Rocket Medical Plc Launches New Device for Lipiodol Hysterosalpingography Procedure to Enhance Fertility Outcomes
WASHINGTON, UK (26 February, 2025) – Rocket Medical Plc, a leading global designer, manufacturer, and distributor of medical devices, has announced the release of their latest product, the HyView HSG and HyCoSy Catheter. This innovative device is specifically designed for use in hysterosalpingography (HSG) and Hysterosalpingo Contrast Sonography (HyCoSy) procedures, commonly used in the investigation of female infertility.
According to Managing Director Daniel J. Agustus, PhD., the HyView catheter was developed in response to the growing need for reliable and effective catheters in HSG procedures, particularly when using Lipiodol® Ultra Fluid, an oil-based contrast medium. “Research has demonstrated the important role that Lipiodol HSG may have in the management of patients seeking medical assistance due to infertility,” said Agustus. “HyView extends our existing HSG and HyCoSy catheter portfolio with a Lipiodol-resistant device, ensuring that we continue to meet the needs of clinicians as medical practice evolves.”
During the HSG procedure, an imaging medium is instilled through the catheter to visualize the shape of the uterus and assess the patency of the fallopian tubes in real-time, using fluoroscopy (HSG) or ultrasound (HyCoSy). While water-based media can be used, research has suggested that the use of Lipiodol may increase pregnancy and live birth rates1-3. Additionally, a New Zealand randomized trial showed enhanced fertility for up to 6 months following a Lipiodol flush, and for a longer period in women with unexplained infertility1,4,5.
The HyView catheter is now available in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans for further market expansion. It is available in 5FG without a stylet and 5FG with stylet, which may be useful in difficult insertions.
