Introducing Norfolk’s Newest Luxury Bed Specialist

Last Updated on: 8th October 2024, 04:34 pm

As a young boy, Harry spent many school holidays visiting his aunty in Hunstanton, never imagining that over 30 years later, he would settle nearby and start his own business.

Cheshire and Oldfield is quickly making a name for itself as Norfolk’s latest premium bed specialist. Their first shop, which opened in October at St Nicholas’ Court, Dersingham, is a tribute to Harry’s great aunt, Sylvia Cheshire, and great-grandmother, Ivy May, from whom the business takes its name.

Focusing on simple comfort and environmentally friendly design, Cheshire and Oldfield are rooted in a wealth of British bed-making expertise. Harry Oldfield, the founder, brings with him over two decades of family history in the industry as the son of the founders of Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Co., located on the Sandringham Estate. With extensive industry experience and recognising a gap in the market, Harry established Cheshire and Oldfield to make high-quality British craftsmanship and organic materials more accessible without sacrificing customers’ expectations.

“With Cheshire and Oldfield, we want to highlight the undeniable quality of British craftsmanship, whether with a wrought iron bed or popular divan base,” explains Harry. “It’s important that customers prize longevity and sustainability to choose products that last a lifetime- whilst having a positive effect on our environment.”

Drawing inspiration from his fashion buyer great-grandmother, the foundations of this ethos were laid long before sustainability became a mainstream concern.

“I often think back to the fond memories of visiting Sylvia when she lived behind the water tower in Hunstanton,” recalls Harry. “After retiring from her and uncle Ken’s coal merchant business in Essex, Sylvia, along with Ivy May, instilled a strong work ethic in our family. Ivy May, in particular, encouraged us to seek out long-lasting, high-quality products so that you only buy once and buy right.” This philosophy continues at Cheshire and Oldfield through their curated selection of exclusive bed manufacturers.

Their divan styles feature plush padded headboards, underbed storage, and natural fibre upholstery in shades from traditional grey to deep navy and sage green. Perfect for smaller spaces, like a countryside cottage or a guest room, these storage solutions maximise space while maintaining style. The metal and brass bed collection, created by the Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Co., pays homage to Harry’s family heritage and the company his mother, Amanda Oldfield, founded.

Another notable name in their collection of luxury divans is Enchanted House Beds. Known for striking designs like the Sandringham upholstered bedstead, Enchanted House prioritises natural materials such as cotton and Dartmoor wool, offering luxury at a more affordable price compared to brands like Savoir and Vispring.

For mattresses, Cheshire and Oldfield offers a sumptuous selection of British-made wool mattresses that provide excellent support and unparalleled comfort. From the Sandringham Wool Collection to mattresses by Archibold Beckers, London, each brand embodies Cheshire and Oldfield’s commitment to restful, restorative sleep.

What sets Cheshire and Oldfield apart from other local retailers is their extensive knowledge, gained through decades of hands-on experience in bed and mattress design. Harry and his team offer exceptional insight into consumer needs, delivering personalised and reliable service. Whether you’re looking for a bespoke design, under-bed storage, or a bed that complements your home’s interior, Cheshire and Oldfield provide functional, sleep-enhancing solutions.
