Introducing EVI: Yanfeng’s Revolutionary Interior Design for Electric Cars in Europe

Neuss, Germany – Global automotive supplier Yanfeng has revealed its Electric Vehicle Interior (EVI) concept in Europe for the first time on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. The company’s vision is to provide a unique interior experience for electric vehicle users, centered around the concept of freedom and offering a spacious and relaxing cockpit area. The EVI concept features an innovative Smart Cabin seat module, which eliminates the traditional instrument panel and integrates all key functions into one unit.

“Our research has shown that electric vehicle users are looking for more advanced technology, but most importantly, technology that is intuitive to use and creates a fun and enjoyable experience. They also want a vehicle interior that is significantly different from traditional combustion engine vehicles,” said Patrik Nebout, Chief Technology Officer at Yanfeng.

The Smart Cabin seat module is a key feature of the EVI concept, combining the front seats, floor console, steer-by-wire input system, displays, seatbelts, airbags, and a comfortable HVAC microclimate system. The steer-by-wire system includes an integrated display that can be easily stowed away for autonomous driving or moved to a steering position for driving functions, depending on the desired driving mode. The HMI display interface is fully integrated in the deployable steer-by-wire arm, eliminating the need for any touch interaction with the large front display panel.

Initial consumer studies using a prototype of the EVI concept have shown a high acceptance rate among participants. Users particularly appreciated the spaciousness and innovative layout of the interior, despite no changes being made to the size or shape of a traditional SUV architecture.

Aside from enhancing the user experience, the EVI concept also offers benefits for automakers. The integration of all important components into the Smart Cabin seat module simplifies and speeds up the assembly process while reducing costs. This is made possible by Yanfeng’s cross-business capabilities, which combine knowledge and experience across all product categories including electronics, safety systems, seating, and interiors.

In addition, the EVI concept contributes to sustainability by eliminating the traditional instrument panel, reducing the overall vehicle weight by approximately 11 kg. This enables greater energy efficiency, an extended range, and lower CO2 emissions. The use of sustainable materials, such as Compression Hybrid Molding (CHyM) with natural fibers, further emphasizes Yanfeng’s commitment to sustainability. The modular approach also simplifies dismantling at the end of the vehicle life cycle and supports the circular economy.

Yanfeng is dedicated to being at the forefront of innovative interior solutions for electrified mobility with the EVI concept, showcasing its position as a leading developer in this field. For further information, please contact Yanfeng International at the address below.
