INTO University Partnerships’ specialised foundation programme in medicine and health has achieved remarkable success, with the majority of its students securing conditional offers for medical degrees both in the UK and internationally.
In the current 2023 cohort, 70% of international students aiming to study medicine have successfully received offers to undertake a five-year MBBS degree.
Initiated in April 2022, the programme is based at the INTO London Centre and started welcoming its first international students in September 2022. It offers foundation students aiming for a medical degree the prospect of progressing to many universities in the UK and globally, including several in the QS Top 150. The programme also opens pathways to a variety of competitive health profession degrees.
Throughout the programme, students engage in modules covering biology, chemistry, mathematics, and research skills, as well as two distinct medicine-related modules developed and taught only at INTO London. These include Advanced Sciences for Medicine, which expands on the students’ pre-existing science knowledge with extensive medically-specific content. The second module, Professional and Communication Skills for Medicine, focuses on developing crucial skills for medical interviews and essential attributes for effective healthcare practice.
Nara, from South Korea and part of the first student cohort, has earned unconditional offers for studying medicine at Aston University and the Malta Campus of Queen Mary University of London.
Nara expressed, “As an international student, it’s very important to know how to communicate well. At INTO, I take part in English classes and improve my academic writing, and how to prepare for presentations – this really helped me when writing personal statements. I also have 1-1 sessions with the university progression and career manager, during which I discuss personal statements and they provide feedback for applying to university medical schools.”
Overall, 95% of participants in the foundation programme have garnered offers from British universities for a range of medical-related degrees. For those who did not secure offers in medicine, they have been accepted into various other medical-related programmes such as Biomedical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Pharmacology, and Biology at universities including Bristol University, Queen Mary University of London, Aston University, and University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
Robin Peel, INTO University Partnerships’ Centre Director at INTO London, remarked, “We have designed this foundation programme in medicine and health professions to give our students the best chance of getting into and being successful on their chosen health degree with excellent progression options, a guaranteed interview at a UK medical school and unique specialist modules.”
INTO University Partnerships offers robust support to students during their university application process, including an online part-time University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) preparation programme that starts in the summer before the foundation course.
Students receive tailored support through one-on-one meetings, and group sessions help guide them through the application process. The University Progression and Careers Manager at INTO London coordinates workshops for personal statements, invites guest lecturers and medical professionals for masterclasses, and provides thorough interview preparation and practice.
INTO London students regularly attend practical sessions in the ‘Superlab’ at London Metropolitan University’s centrally situated campus, which houses one of the largest labs in Europe. This setting is dedicated to enhancing students’ academic and professional skills, where they practice lab etiquette, improve their English in a scientific context, and confidently handle lab equipment.
The INTO London Centre offers a selection of specialised university preparation programmes that guarantee admission to over 100 universities in the UK and Europe. Located near London’s financial hub and the culturally rich districts of Spitalfields, Brick Lane, and Shoreditch, the centre provides a stimulating and diverse educational environment.
Since its inception in 2005, INTO University Partnerships has helped over 150,000 students from over 180 countries secure their places at leading universities in the US, UK, and Australia, aiding them in realising their academic dreams.
