Internet customers rush home

Home Telecom, a subsidiary of the Telecom Acquisitions Group, announced on Friday that they have acquired approximately 11,500 TalkTalk customers from Cuckoo Internet. Cuckoo Internet, which has been voted MoneySavingExpert’s top broadband provider for customer service for the second year in a row, will now be under the management of TAL.

“We want to assure our customers that all Cuckoo Internet terms and prices will remain the same,” said Nigel Barnett, Managing Director of TAL.

According to Barnett, the acquisition will not affect any services as the internet connection through TalkTalk and BT will remain the same. This change is simply an account migration on TAL’s end. Barnett also mentioned that this decision was made by Cuckoo’s owner, All Points Fibre, as part of their mission to expand on their own network.

With this new addition, TAL now manages a total of approximately 100,000 customers. Eleven internet service providers (ISPs) that offer broadband services to residential customers have signed partnership or acquisition agreements with TAL for ongoing service and support.

Barnett explained that TAL’s business strategy is to acquire around 3,000 customers per month through organic growth, and then expand further by acquiring residential bases from broadband providers who are shifting their focus to the B2B arena.

“Internet providers are changing direction to align with their target markets. New AltNets have entered the market, driving prices down to gain volume sales and cover infrastructure costs. Meanwhile, suppliers are increasing prices annually to their reseller partners,” said Barnett.

He added, “Smaller resellers offering to fix prices to gain market share have also had a significant impact on the market by being price-sensitive on comparison websites and offering unrealistic deals. This, coupled with the RPI increase applied by providers, is causing a 20% decrease in profits for ISPs. This is not sustainable in the long run.”

The brands under the TAL umbrella include Home Telecom, which specializes in providing flexible contracts for tenants, Fleur Telecom, which supports over 25,000 customers who have been discarded by larger providers, and Eclipse Telecom, which TAL acquired two years ago and now supports 10,000 former KCOM customers outside of Hull.

“Our customers can easily find the best service for them through a simple postcode checker. With over 10,000 Trust Pilot reviews rated ‘Excellent’ and our company motto ‘we can do better,’ we strive to improve every day,” concluded Barnett.
