International Animal Rescue Celebrates Conservation Day with Exciting Accomplishments

International Animal Rescue (IAR) has released its Impact Report to mark World Conservation Day (28th July). The report highlights the organization’s successful conservation efforts, including orangutan births in the wild, the release of over 770 animals, and the protection of more than 300,000 hectares of forest.

IAR’s holistic conservation program, IARconserves, has been instrumental in delivering tangible and lasting benefits to nature, communities, and the environment. Notable achievements include the rescue and rehabilitation of Budi, an orangutan who captured the hearts of social media followers after being rescued from a chicken coop and released back into the wild after eight years.

Another significant accomplishment is the formation of the first-ever 96-strong female firefighting team in Borneo, known as “The Incredible Power of Mama.” This team has been instrumental in protecting and preserving forests in the region.

IARconserves also focuses on empowering communities in the heart of Borneo, working with those living on the forest edge to promote sustainable practices and protect wildlife. Through this program, over 770 animals have been released back into the wild, and 565 animal species have been protected in the Batutegi forest.

Additionally, IARconserves has played a crucial role in the protection of deep peat swamp forest habitats, preventing 70 million tonnes of CO2e greenhouse gas emissions.

Gavin Bruce, CEO of International Animal Rescue and its IARconserves program, expressed his pride in the organization’s impact. He said, “As we reflect on the impact of our conservation efforts this World Conservation Day, it’s evident that our holistic approach is making a substantial difference. We are achieving tangible and sustainable results through dedicated collaboration with communities and rigorous implementation of tailored initiatives. Let us continue to amplify our impact and forge a brighter future for people, wildlife, and the environment.”

Dr. Karmele Llano Sanchez, Program Director of YIARI, IAR’s implementation partner for IARconserves in Indonesia, also praised the organization’s work. She said, “The journey of The Power of Mama exemplifies the transformative power of grassroots initiatives and collective action in wildlife conservation. These remarkable women are safeguarding forests, challenging gender norms, inspiring change, and building resilient communities. Their dedication is a testament to local engagement’s crucial role in achieving lasting conservation outcomes.”
