Innovative “Start Now, Finish Strong!” Program Launched by Brighton-based Triathlete for Injury Rehabilitation

Last Updated on: 6th January 2024, 11:07 am

PhysioFit Physio and Pilates Studio is proud to unveil “Start Now, Finish Strong!” – a unique rehabilitation program crafted for injured runners aged over 40. This tailored program is designed to help them overcome recurring injuries and achieve pain-free running.

The program’s creator, Alexandra Johnson, is not only a seasoned professional in physiotherapy with over 15 years of experience but also an accomplished competitive triathlete. After graduating with a 2:1 BSc in Physiotherapy from St George’s Medical University, Johnson spent a significant portion of her career in the NHS and then in private practice, focusing on sports injuries related to the musculoskeletal system.

Despite facing her own challenges with Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome, which affects her leg and limits walking durations without a special compression stocking, Johnson has impressively completed grueling events like the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara, 2x 70.3 Ironman World Championships, and marathons in New York and London. She has faced severe pain, recurrent blood clots, muscle weakness, and balance issues.

Her personal journey took a dramatic turn with a cycling accident in January 2017, which led her to explore beyond conventional physiotherapy techniques to find effective solutions for pain-free running, for herself and others.

Johnson’s “Start Now, Finish Strong!” program departs from traditional methods, focusing on a more bespoke approach for the over-40 demographic. This eight-week online course includes mental and physical training, rehabilitation and prevention, mobility and strength training, sleep and nutrition advice, and exercises aimed at common running injuries. One of the program’s success stories is Stephen Taylor, who overcame a recurring Achilles injury to return to pain-free running within two months.

With an investment of over £10,000 in business mentoring and coaching, Johnson is dedicated to extending her expertise to a wider audience, especially targeting runners over 40 facing similar challenges.

Alexandra Johnson remarks: “I passionately believe that being over 40 does not equate to giving up on running or enduring pain. With the right approach, understanding, and techniques, individuals can not only resume running but do so better and stronger, embracing a new lease on life.”
