New Architecture Award Calls for “Simply Good Houses” in the Face of Complex Building Challenges
Hamburg, February 9, 2024 – As the world grapples with challenges such as climate change, energy crisis, and limited resources, the architectural landscape has become increasingly complex and complicated. In response, the 2025 HÄUSER-AWARD, an internationally recognized architecture prize, has announced its theme as “Simply good houses”. This year’s award, in its 22nd year, is seeking cleverly planned and creatively sophisticated homes that prioritize sustainability, functionality, and longevity.
Anne Zuber, Editor-in-Chief of HÄUSER, explains the rationale behind the theme: “In times like these, it is more important than ever to focus on the essentials, rethink and redefine requirements. This not only makes economic sense but also has ecological benefits.” The simplicity in architecture that the award seeks can manifest in various forms, such as efficient constructions, robust technology, cost-effective solutions, and flexible floor plans that can adapt to changing living needs.
The HÄUSER-AWARD is open to architects from all over Europe and is presented in collaboration with the Association of German Architects (BDA), the Association of Private Building Owners (VPB), JUNG, and Parkett Dietrich. A total of €15,000 in prize money will be awarded, with an additional bonus of €1,000 from the VPB for each client of an award-winning house. The Interior Prize, sponsored by Parkett Dietrich and worth €2,000, will also be awarded in 2025.
Entries for the competition must be submitted by May 6, 2024, and the results will be published in April 2025. The winners will be officially announced and honored at an awards ceremony, and their projects will also be featured in an accompanying book.
