Ifeloju community now has access to clean water thanks to Hope Spring’s project completion

Herefordshire-based international development charity, Hope Spring Water, successfully completed and handed over its latest clean water project in Agege, Lagos, Nigeria on February 11, 2024. The project was a collaboration between the charity, the Ifeloju community development association, a local church, and London-based social enterprise Ozami online birthday cards. The goal was to provide a sustainable drinking water solution for the 300 residents of Ifeloju and their neighboring communities.

Discussions about the project began in mid-2023 when the Ifeloju community reached out to Hope Spring Water through their office in Arigbanla Street, Lagos, Nigeria. After ensuring that the community met all the necessary criteria for collaboration, a memorandum of understanding was agreed upon in December 2023.

The project was managed by Mrs. H Balogun of Hope Spring Water Nigeria, with assistance from the board of trustees of Ifeloju community. It was completed at the end of January 2024, with an official handing over ceremony scheduled for February 11, 2024.

The event was attended by members of the Ifeloju community, the board of trustees of Hope Spring Water Nigeria, and the charity’s founder, Temi Odurinde. The chairman of Ifeloju expressed his gratitude for the charity’s expertise and funding in providing a clean water solution for their community. He noted that while water was not scarce in their community, it was contaminated and not safe for consumption. He added that they had been struggling with this issue for many years and their attempts to raise funds for a community borehole had been unsuccessful until Hope Spring stepped in.

Mrs. Balogun, speaking on behalf of Hope Spring Water, praised the Ifeloju community for their cooperation and quick problem-solving during the project, particularly in finding a suitable location for the borehole. She also expressed her gratitude for the community’s commitment to maintaining the project in the future.

Both the Ifeloju community and Hope Spring Water are pleased with the success of their partnership and are hopeful that the borehole will provide clean water for many years to come. More information about the project can be found on Hope Spring Water’s Facebook page.
