How Can We Tackle Industry Pollution as Water Bills Increase?

Water bills set to increase by 21% as Ofwat announces new plans

In a recent ruling, the industry regulator Ofwat has approved a 21% increase in water bills over the next five years. This decision has raised concerns about the impact on consumers, the state of our waterways, and the controversial bonuses given to senior leaders in the industry.

On this episode, Niall Paterson speaks with our business correspondent Paul Kelso in Henley, who shares insights on how the new plans will affect consumers, providers, and the environment. Niall also interviews Stuart Colville, deputy CEO of Water UK, the organization representing water companies, to understand their stance on Ofwat’s decision.

Additionally, Niall is joined by Feargal Sharkey, campaigner and former lead vocalist of The Undertones, who shares his reaction to the news and his efforts to protect our rivers and seas.

The episode also features a discussion on the background of Ofwat’s business plans for Thames Water’s survival, as analyzed by Paul Kelso for Sky News.
