Definition Health, a leading innovator in personalised digital health solutions, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Horder Healthcare, a healthcare charity renowned for its expertise in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal care.
This collaboration marks a major step in adopting digital solutions to enhance patient care at The Horder Centre, East Sussex, a specialist hospital known for performing hip and knee replacements.
The partnership will see Horder Healthcare implement Definition Health’s flagship LifeBox platform, transforming the pre-operative assessment process for more than 6,500 patients each year. LifeBox allows patients to complete medical assessments remotely, minimising the need for in-person or telephone appointments. The platform aims to streamline workflows while delivering personalised and efficient care.
Driving Innovation in Healthcare
The Horder Centre leads the UK in independent hip and knee replacement surgeries. By adopting LifeBox, the hospital aims to improve pre-operative processes and reinforce its reputation for operational excellence and innovation in orthopaedic care.
“We are delighted to partner with Horder Healthcare to enhance the surgical journey for patients,” said Sandeep Chauhan, CEO and Co-Founder of Definition Health.
“The LifeBox platform is designed to improve pre-operative efficiency, optimise patient care, and ultimately support hospitals in delivering better health outcomes. We believe that this collaboration aligns with Horder Healthcare’s dedication to delivering the highest standard of care.”
Enhanced Patient Experience and Operational Efficiency
LifeBox enables patients to actively engage in their care, allowing them to prepare for surgery from the comfort of their homes. The intuitive platform provides educational resources and pre-operative assessments accessible via smartphones, tablets, or computers, making it particularly advantageous for patients with limited mobility.
For healthcare professionals, LifeBox consolidates patient data in a single digital platform, enabling proactive management of potential health issues and ensuring timely specialist reviews when required. This system is expected to reduce delays and cancellations while improving the efficiency of surgical workflows.
“At Horder Healthcare, we are embarking on our digital agenda with the application of LIFEBOX digital pre-assessment,” said Tara Thomas, Head of Clinical Services at The Horder Centre. “This will allow our patients to be involved in their journey with us from the outset. With support from our collaboration with the Definition Health team, we will be able to provide a much more informative platform for patients to share valuable information in preparation for a pre-assessment and access documents, videos, and information leaflets about their upcoming surgery.”
Advancing Sustainability
In addition to its clinical and operational benefits, LifeBox supports Horder Healthcare’s sustainability initiatives by reducing reliance on paper-based communications. This includes digitising health questionnaires and patient information packs, lowering the hospital’s carbon footprint.
“This shift will reduce the amount of paper documents our patients receive through the post, lowering our carbon footprint while also providing a more efficient way of managing patients through the early stages of their pathway,” said Tara Thomas.
“The interactive nature of the platform will allow us to manage much of the pathway in the comfort of the patient’s home. We anticipate a reduction in on-site appointments, which can present challenges for some of our patients due to our demographic and age group. Horder Healthcare is committed to digital transformation, with LifeBox marking the beginning of our journey toward a fully integrated Electronic Patient Record in the future.”
