Hope Spring eCards, the online greetings card platform that raises funds for water poverty alleviation charity, Hope Spring, has announced the release of its Welsh language Valentine’s Day eCards. In a recent blog post, the organization shared that they have designed over ten Valentine’s Day eCards in Welsh, with options for animated and video eCards.
Seun Olonade, the platform manager for Hope Spring eCards and one of the card designers, expressed their motivation for creating these cards, stating, “We were inspired by the positive reception of our Welsh language Christmas eCards last year, which led us to design these Welsh language Valentine’s Day eCards.” While they do not anticipate the same level of popularity as their Christmas cards, they are confident that Welsh speakers will appreciate and send these cards.
When asked about the need for a Welsh language Valentine’s Day card, Olonade explained, “There are certain words in Welsh that simply cannot be translated into English without losing their true meaning. One such word is ‘Cwtch’.” She elaborated, “In Wales, there is a saying that only the Welsh can ‘Cwtch’, and this expression is best captured in Welsh rather than any other language.”
Starting from February 3rd, supporters of Hope Spring and visitors to their website will be able to send the Welsh language Valentine’s Day eCard. The charity channels all proceeds from eCards sent through their platform towards clean water projects in Africa and has already helped over one hundred thousand people escape extreme water poverty.
